There are a variety of ways to decorate and update a front door to match your taste and design preferences as it’s the most visible to your guests and neighbors. You can add décor and flair to your front door based on the seasons or holidays – some people choose to decorate their door all year long!

Wreaths are one of the most popular ways to decorate a door as they can be purchased premade or made yourself as a DIY project from leaves and twigs from the backyard. You can add ribbons and bows to a wreath for different holidays or artificial flowers, with a variety of colors and flowers to the wreath and change it out over the year. How about an over-the-door wreath hanger? This way you don’t have to use nails on your new door!

Another idea is to paint the door a different color. If a door has paneling or trim, use different accent colors for a unique look. Use can also use stencils to add decorative motifs or scroll patterns on the door. For an antiqued look, wipe down the doors with stain or glaze.

How about hang a decorative sign on the door to greet your visitors? Signs are easy to switch out and can be used year-round. Another fun idea for use during the holiday season or birthday: wrap the door to look like a giant present!

Use wrapping paper and a large bow for a festive look. This works well for people who live in condos or apartments and want to share the holiday spirit through decorating. It’s a great way to share your holiday spirit with your neighbors and visitors!

Being creative and decorating your front door really provides a welcome entrance for all who visit. Have fun making your decorations and remember - there are no rules when one is creating! Just remember that your door will be opening and closing very often over the next few months so however you wish to decorate your door, try to construct it and secure it as strong as possible so your decorations stay in place! It’s a fun, affordable way to really make an impression on your front door for nearly any occasion.

ETO Doors Claims Department receives a variety of calls and emails on a daily basis. Some inquiries are regarding the bore prep. The term “bore prep” is essentially the door knob hole and deadbolt hole.  So what happens if you purchased your new door, but picked the incorrect bore prep for your new hardware? It’s best to purchase your hardware either with the purchase of your new door, or before you purchase your new door. Otherwise, you could potentially run into the problem of the door knob hole being too large for your hardware. Today, we spoke with a customer who wanted to use a 60 year old antique hardware to be installed on his new interior doors, and the door knob hole needed to be larger.

So how do you fix this problem?

1.       Hire a professional carpenter

2.       Start a new “DIY” project!

We spoke with our custom mill works department during lunch, and we took notes.

Remember – ETO recommends you hire a licensed professional, and this is just a guide to use.

Complete this at your own risk!

To make a door hole larger:

Materials needed:
Hole saw
Power drill
400 grit sandpaper

1. Remove the door from its hinges, and set it up where you have easy access to the door knob hole.

2. Attach the hole saw to your drill (you can buy hole saw kits at your local hardware store with all the correct attachments). Position the hole saw over the current hole, making sure it is centered. Simply drill a new hole over the top of the old hole to make it bigger. If you are having trouble with this, you can also use a clamp with a piece of lumber on the underside to help guide the hole saw through. Once you are finished drilling, sand the edges lightly until you get a nice smooth surface.

3. Then, replace your door knob by attaching it to the door! You should be able to slide it in much easier with a hole that fits the fixture.

Prom is not only one of the biggest high school dances of the year, but one of the most memorable times of a teenager’s life. There are so many aspects that go along with creating an amazing experience, but the most important is to have a date! So how do kids these days ask one to the prom? Let’s discuss some fun and creative ways we’ve asked someone to the prom.  While you can text your date, you can also be creative too! ETO Doors did an impromptu and random poll, asking our staff how they asked their date to their prom, and here are some responses used “IRL” (in real life).

Tony: ”I attached a small sign asking the big question with my door, having my dog, Jessie James walk to my potential date’s front door, and I waited from the bushes after knocking on the door. She said yes!”

Sara: “My date came to my front door with cupcakes! He brought a dozen huge red velvet cupcakes and spelled out ‘WILL YOU GO TO PROM WITH ME?’ – I couldn’t resist and said yes! Another time, one of the football players came to my house, and my mom opened the door and standing is this guy shirtless with the question ‘WILL YOU GO TO THE PROM WITH ME’ written in our school colors paint.”

Tracy: “So my first prom date as a freshman in high school, this guy took me out to sushi and had the sushi chef spell out ‘BE MY DATE TO PROM?’ using sashimi and wasabi. I said yes!”

Jerry: “In high school, as a joke, I filled up my date’s car with a bunch of beach balls and wrote, ‘I don’t have the balls to ask you in person, but will you go to the prom with me?” Surprisingly, she said yes.

While there’s so many ways to ask your date to prom, nothing beats the old fashioned way by simply going to your date’s front door in person with a bouquet of flowers and asking your date in person.
